Thoughts before going to sleep (yeah, right, sleep)
Most of you know that I do not sleep much these days, what with family “issues” (little brother), school, and (now) being out of work, I just don’t seem to be able to rest, but I am sleeping about 2 hours a night, so that’s not bad (I guess), but I was thinking about something.
Why is it that when pressed on the issue, those who SEEM to be seeking a “secular” America back down? They push and push to eliminate all references to Christianity, but when pressed they seem to lose their will. Case in point is a (somewhat joking) e-mail stating that for American to REALLY be “secular”, the government would NOT be able to observe ANY holiday with any tie to a religion (no matter what religion), which means that our senators and congressmen would no longer have those days off (although many don’t show up much anyway). Not to mention that any Muslims working for the government would not be able to take a break when they have to pray, nor would any other special arrangements be made for anyone based on religion. The loophole for conscientious objectors and the military would be gone, although I don’t see a draft being used ever again, or at least for a VERY LONG TIME, nor would the military be required to keep kosher foods on hand, or make sure that foods that stick to different faith’s dietary requirements are always available.
Therefore I have come to a conclusion, one I have reached many times (as have other bloggers), the push for a “secular America” is not that at all, it is really just a push to eliminate any and all references to and forms of Christianity. You see, Christians feel that to sin is wrong, and thus to break the law of the land (which we are commanded to obey unless it breaks God’s law) by doing drugs, murdering, stealing, ect…. is WRONG, even though there are those who see “shades of grey” in crimes, and feel that for a Christian to say they feel homosexuality is a sin is a “hate crime”, even though Christians readily say that we are commanded to “love the sinner, and hate the sin”, yet that still brings about images of “exclusion” because the church will not cease to say that sin is bad. With the push to “legalise” gay marriage, I cannot help but wonder how long it will be before there is a “mandate” REQUIRING churches to “recognize” these unions, even though Christianity, Judaism and Islam ALL prohibit homosexuality.
Maybe it’s just me, but I see a time in my life when I will have to hide from “the law” because of my faith, and while I do not welcome those days, I also feel that if there ever was or will be a time to be alive, the end days will be that time, and while I pray that God will take me home before his judgement is poured out on this planet, I also pray that if He chooses not to, that He will use me for his plan. God bless America and let me know if you agree, or if you don’t agree, why you don’t, or if you just think I need more sleep.
